Ian Brown - Marathon Man
Bought Ian Brown’s new album My Way this morning and after listening to it twice in a row, this is my favorite track so far. The record is a bit more mellow than the stuff he did before but all in all, I remain a big fan. If rockstar, then Ian Brown - I mean, look at this album cover!
Blind Pilot - Paint Or Pollen
Saw Blind Pilot in Fred’s top Last.fm artists this week and went back to listen to their album.
The Beatles - Rain
One of my favourite Beatles songs. Nuff said.

Blacklist - Flight Of The Demoiselles
If, like me, you were disappointed about the new Editors single, I suggest giving Blacklist a shot. Less mainstream but big anyway. Think early U2, The Cult and Asylum Party and you get a nice cocktail of 80ish, wavy postpunk.
Their record Midnight Of The Century was released in May.
Drummer for Blacklist is my friend Glenn from NYC. Met him on a wedding in Lunenburg, Massachusetts in 2003. Blacklist will be playing Berlin in October and I can’t wait to see Glenn again.
Aberfeldy - 1970
Here’s how I discovered that one:
Today, Fred posted a song by Irene, a band I had never heard of. I liked it. Searched for and listened to them on Spotify this afternoon.
Coming home, I clicked through the suggested Similar Artists on Spotify and found Aberfeldy from Edinburgh. I liked some of the tracks and bought three off of their 2006 album called Do Whatever Turns You Out.
Throw Me The Statue - Noises
Been stumbling upon the name of this band on the Hype Machine and finally checked it out on Spotify. Half-way through the album, this is my favorite track so far.
The Little Ones - Lovers Who Uncover
Listening to their more recent album released last year, but that song came up on my iPod on my way to the office so I’ll go with that one from their album Sing Song.

Liam Frost & Martha Wainwright - Your Hand In Mine
Don’t really remember where I stumbled upon this one. Besides being your rather typical British pop tune (Liam reminds me of the singer from Starsailor a bit - no offence here) the lady on Liam’s side Martha Wainwright, Rufus’ sister, my favorite sibling musicians since Oasis broke up last week.
Here’s where Liam explains how it came to the duet.
Extra kudos for the title of the album that comes out September 14th: “We Ain’t Got No Money, Honey, But We Got Rain”
Fate Lions - Astronaut
Posted a first Fate Lion track yesterday and it really was stuck on repeat the entire afternoon. Returning home from the office, I listened to Astronaut for the rest of the evening. In this track, the singer reminds me of my friend Garrett Klahn (ex-Texas Is The Reason, Solea and currently Atlantic/Pacific) a lot.
Listen to the full record here.
Fate Lions - All You Do Is Crazy
Found this little gem on SoundCloud. That’s right, even if it appears that SoundCloud is a platform with mostly electronic music (which is mostly true), there are some really great indie bands represented.
Over the weekend, I searched for artists tagged “indie” or “folk” and these guys came up. This is a great pop song and it has been stuck on repeat for most of the afternoon. Listen to the full album here and if you like it, buy here.
The Dandy Warhols - The Last High- The Dandy Warhols Are Sound
Excellent track from their recent re-issue of Welcome To The Monkey House which was released in July with the original mix by Russell Elavedo as oppsed to the one released by Capitol.
Extra-kudos because originally they’re from Portland, Oregon.

Monochrome - High Five
Monochrome is one of the best and at the same time one of the most underrated bands in Germany. Their latest record Cache is already a year old and I kinda lost track of the band in the past years. I regularly bump into Marc (their singer who moved to Berlin recently) and after seeing him on Saturday I checked what Monochrome had been up to. I liked what I heard so much that I bought Cache last night. It’s a great post-rock/pop album and I’d urge you to give it a go.
Other great tracks include: Times New Roman, Parallax, Truc and Stern.
Oh, and Britt: I’m quite sure you’d like that record.

Deer Tick - Nebraska (Bruce Springsteen cover)
I think I’ve mentioned before that I’m not too much into covers and it usually takes a lot for me to like one. But every now and then I stumblr upon something I like. Here’s one: Deer Tick from Providence, Rhode Island cover the boss’s Nebraska. Make sure to check out their other tracks, great stuff.
For the record: had a hard time picking my daily song and struggled between this one and two others. But since Bijan’s loyal to cover Friday, I’m joining the gang.

Fugazi - Waiting Room
Probably one of the most important songs of my teenage years. If you’re familiar with the following keywords, you can guess why: DC, Dischord, Ian MacKaye, Rites of Spring, Minor Threat, Emo, Straightedge. Rings a bell? Hope it does.
