    Jim Bryson - Satellite

Wrapping up Pedal Steel Week with Jim Bryson who also is from Canada. Cam, sound engineer for The Weakerthans introduced me to him and you should check out Jim’s record The Northside Benches.

    Pedal Steel Week was fun!

    Okkervil River - Singer Songwriter

    Pedal Steel #6

Have to admit I’m not sure if that really is a pedal/lap steel in there but fact is, they’re definitely trying to make it sound like one. Plus, it’s Saturday and this song is A+.

The Tragically Hip - Morning Moon

    Pedal Steel #5

Whit and Jeff are much better at posting pedal steel classics so I’ll stick with more recent songs. I remember listening to a lot of Tragically Hip while on tour with fellow Canadians The Weakerthans. Morning Moon is the opening track of their most recent album We Are The Same.

Hat tip to Jeff for posting Josh Rouse yesterday. Nashville was my most-listened-to record 0f 2005.

Bright Eyes - Another Travelin’ Song

    Pedal Steel #4

That is my favorite song on I’m Wide Awake, It’s Morning (great album title by the way), my favorite album by Conor Oberst and the gang. This one goes out to Bijan.

Morcheeba - Part Of The Process

    Pedal Steel #3.

Loved that one when it came out in ‘98. Morcheeba is a rather unusual band to pick for something called Pedal Steel Week but I think they make great use of it in this song.

The Shins - Gone For Good

Pedal Steel number two. The Shins, of course.

    The Weakerthans - Benediction

Whit and I were thinking of doing a pedal steel week and I had to post this as a first song.

In 2004, I spent three weeks on the road with The Weakerthans from Winnipeg/Canada and of all tours I managed, that one was the best. Great folks to have around and listening to Stephen (left in the picture) play the pedal steel during soundchecks remains my absolute favorite memory of all tours.
