Code vs. Maths
Posting this short blurb earlier got me thinking about my time at school.
As a kid, I sucked at maths. Somehow, I still do. I could never see the context of what my teachers were trying to teach me and I developed an aversion to learning things that didn’t give me immediate satisfaction or results. I did however enjoy using BASIC to create lists and tables on the first computers ever installed in our school.
Thinking about code and how ‘a series of simple lines’ can affect an entire industry or change the world, I believe that coding should be taught in every class room at an early age.
Kids use computers. They use websites, software and hardware. Teaching how these things actually work and how something similar can be created will define the creative talent we will need in 10 years from now when a ‘coding job’ isn’t just geekness anymore but will be like every other classic job there is today.
Coding generates immediate results, encourages analytical thinking and drives creativity. Plus, it’s fun to mess around with. Isn’t this what school should be about?
