Bijan Sabet: Weekly All Hands Meeting →
I worked at a number of startups and big companies before becoming a venture capitalist.
I’ve brought with me a number of lessons I try to keep in my brian so I remember what it was all about. But often I learn the best things from our portfolio companies.
An example of something I’ve learned…
Love these. Our All Hands are monthly are just like what Dens said, Alex walks us through the overall company progress and team leads dive into specific areas for a status update/news/progress.
Why only monthly you say?
In addition to the All Hands, every other Friday we have Stop! Demo Time, a 1-2 hour session at the end of a week during which every team demoes what they have been working on for the past two weeks. This includes not only coders but all teams: analytics, marketing, People Ops, Community, Bus Dev, etc. After Demo Time, Beer o’ Clock starts where we all head to the basement to grab a beer/soda, spin some music and play ping pong. We also invite peers from other companies to Beer o’ Clock.
These are simple things and consistency is the key. That’s what makes it become an integral part of the culture. I always like to say that when you join a company, you don’t just consume its culture, you contribute.
