Trabayo: Enabling Students To Earn Money

During the SoundCloud/TechCrunch party Wednesday night, I had the chance to catch up with my friend Thomas. Besides working as the Director Concept for the digital media agency Panorama 3000 Thomas, together with two partners, is bootstrapping a project called Trabayo, a service to enable students to earn money based on a particular talent or skill they have. It’s like Etsy for personal services.

Everyone knows that besides waiting tables, there are not really many alternatives for students to earn money on a regular basis. That’s where Trabayo is tapping in.

Let’s say you’re a Mac nerd, been working with one for years and know everything about it. Offer your knowledge about Macs to someone who just switched from a PC and still has a hard time figuring everything out. Get paid to do that.

You like kids? Be a babysitter. You like dogs even more, be a dog walker. You’re a BBQ expert? Get hired to manage the grill at a private garden party. Name your talent, offer your service and make some money along the way with stuff you like to do.

I’m psched about the concept and I’m thrilled Thomas has finally decided to go ahead with it. They’re currently self financing two developers to set up a working prototype and are looking for help from people interested to contribute in the development, technically and conceptually.

I’m a big fan of services that enable people to earn money (see My Hammer or Etsy) and I believe Trabayo is addressing a demographic with high potential.

Wishing Thomas and the team the best of success.
